Château Latour
Pauillac
At the beginning of the 18th century, the export of Bordeaux wines developed rapidly. This new economic situation will also modify the structure of the Médoc domains. Very quickly, wines from the best estates, including Latour, stood out for their quality and price. In 1714 the barrel of Latour was worth four to five times a barrel of ordinary Bordeaux wine. In 1729, the ratio was thirteen and in 1767 twenty. The recognition of the great wines of Château Latour is already very firmly established. This prosperity gradually specialized the estate in its wine-growing activity, which extended over 38 hectares in 1759, then 47 hectares in 1794. The property managed, not without difficulty, to preserve its integrity during the Revolution and above all, remained in the same family. In 1842, successive legacies multiplied the number of co-owners and these came together in a Civil Society which, until 1962, was composed exclusively of descendants of the Ségur family. The property thus enjoys a completely exceptional location and this unique terroir was classified 1er cru in 1855.
Over time, the very large number of heirs led to the sale of most of the shares, however, after several major movements, in June 1993, Mr. François Pinault bought the shares of Allied Lyons via his holding company Artémis. And today allows the Château to continue to represent Bordeaux excellence.
