Clos de Tart

Morey Saint Denis

Le Clos de Tarte was founded in 1141 by the Bernardine nuns of the Abbey of Tart, a dependency of the Abbey of Cîteaux. The Marey-Monge family acquired it in 1791 and remained the owner until 1931, when the Mommessin family from Mâcon bought the estate. Since the spring of 2018, the Clos de Tart has belonged to François Pinault. Thus, this 7.5 hectare vineyard, located on the expanse of Morey-Saint-Denis in the Côte de Nuits, has not known any division in nine centuries of history and is currently the largest Monopoly in Burgundy classified as Grand Believed. Remarkable work has been done at the estate by deepening the maintenance of the plots of the vine which is now cultivated entirely organically, by specifying the choice of toasts and by significantly reducing the quantity of new wood among the aging barrels. Clos de Tart has gained in finesse and elegance while retaining the depth of flavor that made it famous.
