Comtes Lafon

Meursault

Jules Lafon married Marie Boch, whose family owned and traded in Meursault. In 1923, then mayor of Meursault, Jules Lafon had the idea of restoring the tradition of the meal at the end of the harvest. He invited 35 of his friends to a small banquet: the Paulée de Meursault was born.

René Lafon after his decisive intervention to avoid the dismemberment of the vines, René Lafon took over the estate in 1956. In collaboration with the sharecroppers, he undertook the restoration of the vines and carried out major replantings. Gradually, a larger and larger part of the harvest was bottled, until all of it was bottled in 1961. His interest in vines and wine led him, in 1967, to leave Paris for his settle permanently in Meursault.

Dominique Lafon took over from his father in 1984, initially with his brother Bruno. From 1987, he undertook to gradually break the sharecropping contracts (9-year leases). Thus, since 1993, the 13.80 hectares of vines have been fully exploited by the Domaine.
