Gevrey Chambertin
Philippe Duroché started his 3-hectare estate in 1954 and slowly built it up to its current size, just over eight hectares. From 2005 to 2008, Philippe's grandson, Pierre, jointly managed the estate alongside his father Gilles. Today, Pierre manages the vines and winemaking by himself, hoping to continue the family tradition of creating elegant and gourmet wines. Beginning with the 2014 vintage, Pierre introduced a new special cuvée, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux St Jacques Vignes 23, exclusively from vines planted before 1923. Most of the grapes come from a plot adjacent to Clos St Jacques which is plowed exclusively on horseback. Its Gevrey-Chambertin heritage includes three villages, three Premiers Crus (Champeaux, Cazetieres and Estournelles St-Jacques) and four Grands Crus (Charmes Chambertin, Latricières Chambertin, Chambertin Clos de Bèze, Griotte Chambertin). Only natural yeasts are used during fermentation, and aging is done in 10 to 20% new oak barrels for the village, 30-50% for the Premier Cru, and 50-75% for the Grands Crus .
